Again, YouTube?

Fri Dec 11, 2009, 4:51 PM
Over the last 3 or 4 years I've been on YouTube, countless music videos have been taken down due to copyright infringement. Today, I uploaded a trailer to the new Transformers game, whose trailer premiered today. It got me banned.

Now I understand their copyright rules. Can't upload movies, TV shows (well, some people can) or certain music... But game footage? A trailer, even? That was released to the Internet and available for download? Which has, by now, been uploaded to YouTube many times from what I see? Ugh...

To add insult to injury, I had another account where I uploaded excerpts to a podcast I like - which had nothing on it that was breaking the rules in any way, it was like a fanclub - was ALSO banned. Okay YouTube, I get it, you want me gone. But did I do anything on this account? Anything?

Anyway, I've created a new account. Since I've obviously not been 100% into uploading on YouTube FOR THIS REASON, I'm not going to upload stuff to it, and probably won't even comment on anything with it. I'm just going to follow the subscriptions I can still remember. There were many.

Fuckin YouTube. :|

Bionicle: 2001-2009

If you don't wanna read the somewhat-long article, it basically says LEGO is looking to put an end to Bionicle and try something else new for once. However, according to their statement, the story will still go on, apparently. We just won't get new sets.

They've released a final set called Bionicle Stars, which features reinventions of important characters in the story. I thought it might've been all the original Toa, but it's Tahu, Takanuva, a Rahkshi, and three others I'm not familiar with. Basically, they look neat. And now I have to add Tahu and Takanuva to my Christmas list. >_>

To give my own thoughts on Bionicle's end: I stopped paying attention to the series when it got further into the Metru Nui era, specifically when they introduced Toa Hordika. I got the third movie, watched it, and kinda moved on. However, even I recognize its popularity. Bionicle has managed to stay fresh in a way similar to Transformers: Reinventing its characters and adding to the fiction as time goes on, attracting fans new and old.

Overall I don't share the same sadness as others might. But I think LEGO is making a right decision here - They didn't put an end to it during its first few waves of toys, and didn't let it drag on until everyone stopped caring. They allowed it to grow until they decided to move on and try something new.

I dunno - I accept that anyone out there is upset, but I'd say they're doing the proper business strategy: staying fresh. And as they mentioned in the article, they work best when trying something new. Let's wait and see what they have to show us in their next series.

The end of the Maj era?

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 19, 2009, 10:25 AM

I doubt anyone outside of the LEGO/Bionicle fandoms know what Maj is. Basically, Brickshelf is like the Photobucket of LEGO-related images. They offer a non-LEGO alternative called Maj (later renamed Majhost). Recently, the site has stopped allowing people to upload pictures to it.

I considered the possibility that I got in trouble for some reason - it seems others are experiencing the same problem, so either there was a massive ban of users, or they're down for a rather long period of time.

I've been using the site for uploading to it since 2005 or so; non-DeviantART art, website resources, random things to upload to show others. LOTS of things. The fact that it's down concerns me, because this means I've lost a very reliable, no-questions-asked service.

For now, I'll just have to use FlickR. [link]

Apologies + Wanna buy art?

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 19, 2009, 5:44 AM

I kinda wanna ask whether or not people are willing to buy art from me, BUT first I wanna apologize to the last three people waiting for me to finish the 10 Free Sketches dealio. I went to an early Thanksgiving a few days back and have been trying to recover from that (or rather, the incredibly tiredness I was going through) for the last few days. I'll try to get to the remaining sketches in a little bit.

OKAY, so, money. I need it. So, let's see if we can make this happen.

I'm trying to get into submitting Prints here. I've got one up now since someone requested a Print (intentional or not?), so we'll see how that goes. I WILL try to do some more unique pieces for Prints, so it won't just be the usual stuff that you can see for free.

If it doesn't go so well, I wanna try doing commissions. SOMETHING to get some cash off'a my art, since all I really do is draw. I kinda wanna see if people are interested, and if so, how much you'd be willing to pay. Sketches, colored, whatever. I'll lay down some ground rules once people are interested.
