スペシャル03:ライダーは団結!ゴールデンフルーツをねらえ! / Special 03: Riders Unite! Aim for the Golden Fruit! (Part 6-6)
------------------------------

In the parking lot of an old mall, Sonomura stood before Kota, Kaito, Minato, Kin and Jiro.

"If what you're saying is true, why don't we just leave?" Sonomura asked them.

"Exactly what I expect of you." Kaito glared.

"Tell us how, exactly, a guy like you can flee the entire country before that Armored Rider comes after you." Kin challenged him.

"Look, you guys are crazy if you think I'm gonna fall for this." Sonomura smirked to them. "There's no way there's some god guy chasing after--"

"SONOMURA!!" Hase screamed.

Hase and Jonouchi started to run towards them in a panic. Before they could question why, a black smog came from around the corner in the street and took the form of Rei, who turned to face them. As she walked their way, she phased in and out of existence, moving closer each moment.

"Rei... is that you?" Jiro questioned.

Minato recognized the smog. "I don't think this is the Rei you know."

Rei activated her Driver, transforming once more.

[C'MON - MIX! MATSUBOKKURI DUSTER - YEEHAW!]

The Dark Maiden held her hand out to receive the apple based sword, with vines wrapped around her wrist, then chuckled darkly as she swung at Sonomura. He dodged, barely, wiping a cut on his arm as he looked up at her.

"Don't go in unarmored!" Mitchy yelled as he came running in with his Lockseed out. Doki joined the others.

"Mitchy!" Kota watched him run by as he transformed.

[HAI - BUDOH ARMS! DRA-GUN, HA-HA-HA!]

Ryugen slid in and started to shoot at her sword, seemingly ineffective as she swiped his shots away. Sonomura stood up and activated his Driver, not sure what was going on but knew his life was at risk with this girl here.

"Comin' atcha!"

[♪♪♪ - DURIAN ARMS! MR... DANGEROUS!]

Bravo jumped at Dark Maiden with his swords ready to strike down, but she turned her back to him and allowed the armor to take the attack. Despite Bravo attacking anywhere he could, Ryugen continued to shoot at the sword and the arm it was held by to no avail. The others exchanged looks.

"Mitchy thinks the sword is the cause." Doki told them.

Minato observed... she looked to Jiro and he nodded, recognizing it as well.

"Everyone stand back." Jiro looked to Kota. "We need your Lockseed for a sec."

"What for?" Kota questioned, confused.

Bravo stumbled back, shaking off the impact of that attack. He was overwhelmed by her strength - she was more than human right now. Ryugen was knocked back with a powerful blow, causing his suit to dematerialize. As Dark Maiden approached Bravo, she turned when she heard someone come her way.

"You've still gotta deal with me...!" Doki yelled as he ran towards her, transforming.

[HAI - ORANGE ARMS! TAKE THAT SPOTLIGHT ON STAGE!]

Soku donned an orange armor and sword, and attempted to slash upward. Dark Maiden clashed with his sword, only to have him take this opportunity to leg sweep her. She blocked his attempts, not faltering for a moment, and continued her attack. As Bravo watched, Minato came over to him to whisper something.

"I dunno what's going on with you, Rei," Soku said, "But this has gotta stop! You're one of the first people who wanted us to stop fighting!"

"Silence...!" Dark Maiden growled, delivering a punch to his gut with her free hand.

As she did so, she felt a tug from her sword. Bravo was grasping the blade as tight as he could, letting out a soft chuckle. As she pulled him around, trying to shake him off, she had been significantly slowed down by his body and heavy armor - enough for an opening.

"That's what I was waiting for!"

[HAI - ORANGE AU LAIT!]

Dark Maiden gasped. An orange slice hologram passed by her arm, severing the vines that binded the sword to her hand. Bravo fell back with the sword disappearing before it could hit the ground. She'd started to fall back, but slowly came to a stop in her mind, the world around her engulfed in darkness. Rei could feel the vision of the golden Overlord wash over her once more.

"Do as I say!" The gold Overlord echoed in Rei's head.

Tears welled up in her eyes at what she'd been doing. "No! I never asked for this - I don't want to kill my friends, I only want this illusion to end!"

"It doesn't matter, your kind is doomed to extinction either way, foolish ape." The Overlord walked up to her as she stood frozen in place. "Just like the Femushinmu, they'll be wiped out soon enough. But you, like me, will survive if we eliminate them together... If you'd just believe."

"Never! I'll never be like you!!" Rei screamed at him.

Rei started to let off a white glow as her suit dematerialized. The golden Overlord was soon blinded and disappeared, with the world around her coming back as she fell to the ground, weakened from battle. She was crying and panting in fear over what'd happened, even if it was such a brief time. The rest let their suits dematerialize as well once they saw her in this state.

"Rei!" Jiro called out, running over to her.

"J-Jiro... everyone..." Rei panted. "I'm so sorry, I--"

Jiro sat her up and hugged her tightly.

"What... happened to you?" Doki asked.

"That Overlord... he and... and Lapis... they..."

"What's she talking about?" Sonomura questioned.

"She seems to know a lot more than we do." Kaito remarked as he stepped over to her.

Kaito looked back to Minato, who came over to help her up. She looked her eye to eye, confirming that she was back to normal, and decided to ask what needed to be asked.

"There's another?"

. . .

It'd become too dangerous for those unable to fight to take part. The regular Inves Gamers were brought to an underground shelter while the Armored Riders carried out their plan. In one of Yggdrasill's offices, they were told what Minato knew, then what Rei learned.

"So the nukes were your cover story to track down that Rider." Yoshimoto remarked.

"Well, how do we get to this other guy for help?" Sonomura questioned. "Do you just yell out his name and he appears like some kind of genie?" He looked to Rei, who was glaring at him silently for his attitude.

"That might not be too far from the truth." Minato said. She stood up and walked to the window, looking at the night sky. "They've always been with us. Anytime the illusion begins to fade, they watch us through reflections to ensure that we don't defy the fate they had planned."

"Now, it seems, the game has changed."

Everyone looked to the entrance in the room. There, in the sporty attire he was known for, was a local DJ who they'd presumed had fled the city after the Inves Games went awry. DJ Sagara gave a little wave as he let himself in, showing more of a serious tone than his radio personality.

"Sagara..." Rei recognized.

"How did you get in here?" Takatora questioned suspiciously.

"I've got a lot of tricks." Sagara playfully answered. "However, I'm not the one you should be worried about, am I?"

"You had something to do with this, didn't you?" Minato questioned him.

Sagara looked to her and gave a simple nod. "That's not inaccurate. I don't intend on letting you remember this later, but for the sake of this situation, allow me to explain."

~~~~~
From atop a rooftop, Rook stood firmly, watching the final moments of Haku and Baron's battle. Sagara appeared before him.
"You're something far from normal, that much I know." Sagara ignored his attempt to banter. "Just what do you hope to gain from forcing your own chess piece onto the field against the potential victors for the fruit of knowledge?"
"I am merely presenting my own candidates." Rook told him. He placed his arms behind his back and faced Sagara. "However... in retrospect, the conditions of this city seem hardly stable for such a competition."
"Is that so?" Sagara raised a brow.
"What they call Helheim and Overlords have thrown the competition askew. I propose that we reimagine their original competition and allow them all an equal chance at their prize." Rook explained. "From there, only pure determination will be the deciding factor."
"I see." Sagara stepped forth. "However, there should be moderators for such an ambitious setting, so I propose this..."
Sagara held out his hand and from it, a glowing gold orb of energy took the form of a golden apple. From there, a crack started to open from behind him leading into the Helheim Forest.
"I will choose someone of this world's 'Helheim' to oversee the events." Sagara told him. "He will wield the power of the fruit of knowledge for the duration of this event."
"As will I." Rook countered, to his surprise.
Doing the same as Sagara, Rook presented a glowing silver apple, which brought a smirk to Sagara's face. A crack of his own then started to open, leading into a forest with oddly colored plantation, now taken over by purple alien plantlife. A subtle scowl went across Rook's face as he showed Sagara the world he once called home.
"So... that's how it is." Sagara remarked.
~~~~~

"I've erred in my choice of overseer." Sagara remarked. "The greed for the fruit of knowledge extends beyond your world - it lures all kinds. Now the other overseer seems to have gone into hiding."

"What exactly do you intend to do about it?" Rei questioned him, standing up defiantely.

"I will do one thing." Sagara raised a finger. "The rest... is up to you guys. Keep things interesting for me, if you'd please." He grinned.

As he finished, he and the world around him started to fade away, spreading through the room and to the outside. Suddenly, they all found themselves standing in a large, empty field, nothing but an endless rocky terrain and dirt ground around them. There was no one left - no civilians, no city, no world - only Armored Riders.

The silence in the air was broken as armored footsteps alerted them to another. The group turned to find a regal humanoid Overlord Inves draped in shimmering gold, who struck a chord with Rei alone. She and Kota stood side by side as they stood ahead of the others.

"The time for charades is over." The golden Overlord decreed. "To you, I was known as Kogane, but my true name... Haeyafu... will be the name you remember as you fall to my might!"

"That's not happening," Kota said, taking his stand, "We're taking this world back!"

"Hmph - Insolent ape!"

Haeyafu threw a large bright ball of light towards them, too big to run away from without taking damage, but it was blocked by a wall of purple vines rising from the ground to deflect it. Haeyafu leaned to the side to dodge his own attack, but looked to the group in surprise. As the vines lowered into the ground, Lapis stood in the middle. He lowered his silver gauntlet, glaring at the golden Overlord.

"Lapis. To side with these apes... have you no pride?" Haeyafu questioned.

"They aren't apes!" Lapis barked at him. "There's something they have that both our people lacked when we neared extinction; When they were taunted by the fruit..." He looked to Rei. "These people chose to band together to survive. And even in the face of temptation, when competition was at its peak, those below them still mattered."

Rei nodded to him, smiling a bit.

"This sort of thing they call humility... I wish to protect it." Lapis looked to the Overlord.

"You've got my support." Kota told him. He looked to Kaito and Mitchy, who nodded.

Morphing into Kogane, the Overlord now took out his Lockseed and placed it into his Driver. "Then you shall die for showing weakness."

[GOLDEN ARMS... THE GOLDEN FRUIT...]

Malus transformed, a wave of golden energy washing over him as he unsheathed his sword from his shield.

"This guy needs to be taught a lesson, so why not." Sonomura stepped forth. "Whaddaya say?" He looked to the others.

"For once, I agree with him," Jiro joined Doki and Kin, "Let's show this guy what happens when you mess with our world."

Lapis attached his Driver and unlocked a Lockseed.

[SILVER~!]

As a shimmering silver apple armor appeared in the sky, everyone's Drivers and Lockseeds appeared on their respective users. Together they started activate them, to the disdain of Malus.

[MELON ENERGY ARMS.] [AVOCADO ARMS!] [BLUEBERRY ENERGY ARMS.]

Zangetsu-Shin, Shinra and Haku stood firm.

[ORANGE ARMS!] [BANANA ARMS!] [BUDOH ARMS!]

Gaim, Baron and Ryugen joined them, readying their weapons.

[DONGURI ARMS!] [DURIAN ARMS!] [MATSUBOKKURI ARMS!]

Gridon, Bravo and Kurokage joined together.

[HASHIBAMI ARMS!] [PEACH ENERGY ARMS.] [KURUMI ARMS!]

Maiden, Malika and Knuckle teamed up like they never expected.

[LIME ARMS!] [CRANBERRY ARMS!] [NASHI ENERGY ARMS.]

And finally, the Riders who had been built up by this world, Soku and Kurokage-Shin stood by Thor.

[SOIYA - SILVER ARMS~! THE SHIMMERING NEW STAGE~!]

Lapis' gauntlet started to glow and he held out his arms, allowing a blue and silver apple armor to drop down. It unfolded and turned him into the majestic silver Rider, the second overseer of this world. The fifteen Riders of this world joined his side, forming a small army.

"Taking on the crown of my people, I am Armored Rider Kamuro!" The silver Rider called out. "Now, you must defeat this menace as one," He readied his cane, pointing it forward. "Onward!"

The group started to split into three factions, taking on Malus from multiple sides. As Gaim struck, he swatted it away with his sword, then blocked Baron's lance with his shield and received one successful hit to the back from Gridon... which caused no damage. Malus turned with a swipe of his sword meeting Gridon's face, sending him flying back. Finally, Malus activated an attack while he was free.

[C'MON - GOLDEN SPARKLING...]

Malus twirled around with his sword out, unleashing a golden wave of energy all around that knocked the Riders away. As Kamuro stepped in he looked to them all, reading his cane in the air.

"Allow me to provide you with a tactical advantage...!" Kamuro called out to them.

Lockseeds started to fall from the sky, which seemed to have a familiar heir to them as they each made their grab for it. Although this had no relevance to the Genesis Driver users, who instead continued an arrow assault on Malus to distract him.

"Hmm, needs must." Shinra switched to a new form as he ran towards Malus.

[♪♪♪ - RAMBUTAN ARMS!]

Twirling a pitchfork into view, Shinra jabbed at Malus, only to be caught by his shield and swatted aside. Despite this, Shinra continued his attack, with Kurokage leaping into view, having switched to a pecan based form.

[PECAN SPARKLING!]

Kurokage threw a sickle with chain, allowing it to pass by Malus with a sharp strike. He growled, swinging his blade at the foe.

"You apes are doomed to die, do you not get it?!" Malus yelled. "This struggle is only going to ensure your downfall!"

[MANGO ARMS!]

Malus turned and used his shield to block a large club, as Baron glared him down.

"I don't die easily." Baron growled.

"What's this?" Gaim grabbed one from the ground. "This looks pretty strong."

Malus was attacked from behind by Gridon and Knuckle, both wearing pumpkin armor and wielding halberds. They shared a short lived high-five as he returned the attack. However, then came Ryugen with his kiwi wheels and Bravo with a mango club matching Baron. Then came Kurokage-Shin, who finished it off with a series of quick swipes.

Kamuro stepped around the battlefield, contemplating his time to strike. He looked to Gaim, who was no longer wearing an armor, struggling with his belt. He ran over to him, questioning his actions.

"Just what are you doing?"

"This thing won't fit in!" Gaim held out the Kiwami Lockseed.

Soku attempted to attack Malus with a kick from behind, but he smacked him away with ease. As he fell to the ground, Malus loomed over him, ready to destroy this easy prey... only to have to block Maiden's pine weight with his shield. While he did so, however, he was smacked away from Soku by a large shield thrown by Thor in his almond armor.

"You guys are awesome." Soku told them.

"We're not letting another life get wasted here..." Maiden said, looking to Malus.

[FRUIT BASKET!]

To everyone's surprise, fruit armors appeared in the sky and began to knock Malus around, only to loom over Gaim. Kamuro stepped out of the way, having instructed Gaim on what to do. Gaim turned the key of his belt, welcoming the armors to come closer.

[LOCK OPEN - KIWAMI ARMS! DAI-DAI... DAI-DAI... DAISHOGUUUN~!]

The armors were absorbed into Gaim, creating a dominate royal form not unlike Kamuro's, with a flowing cape. This was Gaim's true, unfiltered strength, coming to life. He faced Malus now with not only power, but the memory of how to wield it.

"You... you apes..." Malus struggled to stand, "You learned to wield this power too? How?!"

"This is my stage, now..."

[MUSOH SABER!] [MATCHLOCK MIGHTY ORANGE DJ GUN!]

Gaim ran to Malus with his large sword and delivered a successful uppercut which chipped his crown helmet. As Malus turned, he saw Kamuro facing him, with his cane ready. Malus chuckled weakly, almost in a disgusted way.

"You think that killing one of the last of a proud race will avenge your own people?" Malus questioned him.

"I'm sorry for what I must do." Kamuro said simply. He started to reach for his belt.

"Your words disgusts me." Malus readied his own belt, "Begone!!"

[GOLDEN AU LAIT...]

[SILVER SPARKLING~!]

Both Kamuro and Malus' weapons glowed intensely as they started to strike each other. As they did this, Malus remembered his surroundings. He could hear Gaim readying his own attack... it was too late.

[KIWAMI SPARKLING!]

Kamuro and Malus' attacks clashed with a bright flash. No one knew who'd hit first, but both were sent back. As Malus was knocked into Gaim's direction, Gaim smashed his sword onto the ground and sent a powerful fruit based shockwave his way, cutting straight through him, his belt, Lockseed, and body. Smog escaped his body and he let off an explosion. Once the smoke cleared, everyone looked around - Malus was nowhere to be found...

"We did it..." Gaim panted.

"Lapis!"

Maiden ran over to Kamuro, who was on the ground with a gash in his armor and blood of strange color. He looked up to Maiden, letting off a soft, weak chuckle. Before any words could be said, his body was started to dematerialize. Like pixels, he was starting to disappear, from his feet to his waist, before saying his parting words.

"It's safe, now, for you to return home." Kamuro told her. "Please... protect it for me..."

Maiden whimpered as she felt him leave her arms. Thor put a hand on her shoulder. With the last pixel, Kamuro had disappeared, and along with that everyone's Drivers. Their suits dematerialized, and they looked around to see that the world in the distance was starting to fade.

"This is it?" Yori looked around curiously. "I guess soon, we'll remember everything."

Rei looked over to him, seeing his innocent confusion. She smiled a bit at that - it was like none of it ever happened...

"Jiro, Rei?" Doki walked over to them. "Will we still be together on the other side?"

"There's still a lot to fix..." Rei put her hands on their shoulders, "But we'll be together once it's all over. I promise."

"Where's Kaito?" Kota realized, looking around. He seemed to just... disappear.

"It's been good fighting by you guys." Kin looked between Zack and Mitchy. "I guess if what Yoko said was true, I won't be able to chip in."

"See you on the other side, sir." Takatora said to Yoshimoto.

Minato looked to everyone, feeling a bit of remorse in not telling all that she knew, as this farewell was both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

"It's here!" Yori exclaimed, seeing the sea of pixels come their way.

. . .

Rei jolted up. She'd looked around in the dimly lit RV parked in one of the garages at Gaim's base.

Jiro was sound asleep by her side, but she couldn't shake this overwhelming restlessness. Even her rest seemed to be taken away by the Overlords when they'd destroyed the city. She tried to recall her dream, as she felt so shaken by it, like she'd lost something. But... but her mind was coming up blank.

------------------------------

[Next time...]

"I just need to keep moving forward." Yori told her. "It'll be worth the pain... I'm sure."

"I'm putting you in your damned place." Yoshimoto growled to Rook.

"Black Rider, it isn't just Kota you're hurting." The blonde Mai told him. She pointed accusingly.

"There is but one task I ask of you." Rook looked to him. "When the time is right..."

[KING... OF... UNDERWOOOOOOD~!]

"YORIII...!!" Gaim yelled furiously, charging at Haku.

[The final moments of the Forbidden Fruit Saga... Coming soon.]
And here we are with the jam packed finale of the summer movie adaption, which as a reminder was almost soccer based but isn't.

I will confess in trying to make this more reasonably paced than the movie, I kind of ended up doing the same pacing, but at least with some better indication of time progression. The story ended up becoming quite nutty, which is kind of just what tends to happen when you do what I do; Go in with a pretty good idea of how you want it to end, then come up with twists and turns as you write.

I'm overall satisfied with what I was able to tell, and having planned this for so long, I feel good being able to finally have it done. Now all that's left is the final 10 episodes. Will I actually be able to tell this all within under 100 chapters? There's a challenge I won't force myself to do but will certainly question!

The preview lines at the end here apply for events throughout those episodes, and that's all I'm going to address for now. Til then!

And already, this fan-fic is way better than the Gaim movie itself.

I may even recommend this fanfic when I review the movie. Would it be OK if I use your fanfic's icon when I recommend the fanfic?
